The ASHRAE Hawaii Chapter is pleased to welcome Joshua McDonough as Chapter Programs Chair. Joshua previously served in this role during the 2019–2020 chapter year and again from 2022–2025, bringing valuable experience and leadership to the position.

As Chapter Programs Chair, Joshua is committed to delivering engaging and relevant programs that provide value to members across the HVAC&R industry. His focus is centered on supporting John Fuller’s presidential initiative emphasizing sustainability, energy efficiency, and the advancement of innovative building solutions. Through thoughtfully planned technical sessions, networking opportunities, and educational programming, Joshua aims to continue fostering professional growth and industry collaboration within the Hawaii Chapter.

Technical Presentation

 

Topic: Application of Self-Priming Pumps for Building Envelope Applications

 This presentation will cover the purpose, benefits, and advantages of implementing self-priming pumps in your next project. Save time and money with less trouble calls for loss of flow and pumping failure due to pump going air-bound. Learn more about self-priming pumps at this month’s meeting with Joe Price from Gorman-Rupp.

Presenter: Joe Price (Gorman-Rupp)

Joe Price is current the Western District Manager - Engineered Systems Division for the Gorman-Rupp Company. Prior to working at Gorman-Rupp, Joe has worked as a Western Region Manager for Metron, developing their municipal pump station market for WTP & WWTP applications as well as fire suppression/emergency water booster systems for commercial applications. Joe received his Bachelor’s in Economics at Seattle University and has 19 years of industry experience in territory sales management and business development for the Western Region of the U.S.

This "green" goal can be best accomplished by having a building’s environmental system properly tested, balanced and/or commissioned by a Certified TAB Company. What can the owners, construction managers, and design engineers specify to deliver the highest level of results on their projects. The TAB contractors and Commissioning specialists weigh in...

Presenters: Carey Tomasa, Jason Huffman, Martin Heede

Carey Tomasa, Owner and Manager for 23 years, Air Balance Hawaii, Inc.
Carey Tomasa graduated from Honolulu Community College with an AS degree in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology. He started his career in 1980 as a refrigeration mechanic and was introduced to Testing, Adjusting and Balancing (“TAB”) work in 1986 while working for Thomas McGowan at Certified Testing. In 1991 Carey started Air Balance Hawaii. In 1994 Carey became TAB certified though the National Environmental Balancing Bureau (“NEBB”). Carey has been an ASHRAE member since 1997 and a USGBC member since 2003.

Jason Huffman, President, Pacific Test & Balance, Inc.
Jason has 17 years in the TAB industry, with experience in building systems commissioning, sound and vibration testing, DDC and pneumatic controls, fume hood certification, ABSL/BSL design and compliance testing, duct air leakage testing, building envelope testing, indoor quality testing, hospital HVAC design and compliance certification, international project development and con struction relations. Jason graduated from Pacific Christian College with a B.S. in Business
Administration and a Minor in Accounting. He also attended JATC/Foothill College/ITI where he received a Certificate of Apprenticeship.

Martin Heede, Report QCManager, Certified Technician, TAB Engineers, LLC
Martin Heede has 9 years of experience at TAB Engineers where he oversees all TAB reports before they are delivered to the customers. He earned his TAB Technician Certification in 2010. In his spare time, Martin is an avid golfer, surfer, and attends ASHRAE Hawaii Chapter meetings. Martin attended Santa Barbara City College where he studied business administration.
