The ASHRAE Hawaii Chapter is pleased to welcome Joshua McDonough as Chapter Programs Chair. Joshua previously served in this role during the 2019–2020 chapter year and again from 2022–2025, bringing valuable experience and leadership to the position.
As Chapter Programs Chair, Joshua is committed to delivering engaging and relevant programs that provide value to members across the HVAC&R industry. His focus is centered on supporting John Fuller’s presidential initiative emphasizing sustainability, energy efficiency, and the advancement of innovative building solutions. Through thoughtfully planned technical sessions, networking opportunities, and educational programming, Joshua aims to continue fostering professional growth and industry collaboration within the Hawaii Chapter.

Topic - ASHRAE Standard 52.2: Air Filters
Presenter - Dan Campbell
Dan Campbell is a Regional Sales Manager for Camfil Farr with responsibility for sales in the western United States and Mexico. Prior to assuming the Regional Sales Manager position, Dan was the Cleanroom/BioPharam Segment manager for the largest volume clean process producing territory in the country. His customers included Intel, Genentech, west-based pharmaceuticals and semiconductor companies, as well as Camfil Farr representatives and distributors. Dan has over twenty five years of experience in HVAC industry including air filtration and equipment Sales. Before joining Camfil Farr in 2006 Dan had his own Manufacturer Repersentive company providing air handling and air filtration equipment to the cleanroom industry. Dan has been an active member in ISPE and ASHRAE since 1995. He is recognized as an industry expert on air filtration applications and solutions presenting regularly to industry associations. Dan is highly-accredited for his ‘hands-on, on-the-road’ training both internally and externally as it relates to industry trends and applications around the country.
Main Program
Topic - ASHRAE Standard 90.1: Past, Present & Future
Standard 90.1 is considered to be ASHRAE’s flagship standard. First launched in the 1970’s, the standard has been updated many times and today represents one of the key national and international benchmarks for energy efficiency in buildings. This presentation will provide some of the history of the standard to provide perspective and will look at the process of standards development from a user’s perspective. A major focus will be on some of the new criteria that are contained in the recently released 2013 version of Standard 90.1.
Presenter - Ron Jarnagin (Past Society President and Past Chair of
Standard 90.1-1999)
Mr. Jarnagin has been involved in energy-related research and deployment activities for over 30 years. His background is diverse, including work in the areas of fluid flow, power plants, automotive and transportation systems, HVAC systems, energy use in buildings, and energy standards development. Mr. Jarnagin has served on numerous utility, government and business advisory boards, lending his expertise to solving their respective energy problems. He served on the faculty in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Florida for 10 years, and has been with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for 19 years.
Mr. Jarnagin is active in standards development activities, both nationally and internationally. He chaired ASHRAE’s Standard 90.1 committee for 4 years, providing the leadership to successfully complete a comprehensive revision to that standard in 1999. In addition, he chaired the International Standards Organization (ISO) TC 205, Building Environment Design. He chaired a multi-disciplinary team made up of members of four organizations that produced the new Advanced Energy Design Guide for Small Offices which has one 3 national awards from sustainability organizations in the U.S. Mr. Jarnagin is active in ASHRAE, having served as Society President from 2011-2012.
