The ASHRAE Hawaii Chapter is pleased to welcome Joshua McDonough as Chapter Programs Chair. Joshua previously served in this role during the 2019–2020 chapter year and again from 2022–2025, bringing valuable experience and leadership to the position.
As Chapter Programs Chair, Joshua is committed to delivering engaging and relevant programs that provide value to members across the HVAC&R industry. His focus is centered on supporting John Fuller’s presidential initiative emphasizing sustainability, energy efficiency, and the advancement of innovative building solutions. Through thoughtfully planned technical sessions, networking opportunities, and educational programming, Joshua aims to continue fostering professional growth and industry collaboration within the Hawaii Chapter.

Topic: Do's & Don'ts of Solar Water Heating
Presenter: Mark Hertel
Mark Hertel - Executive VP of IISS received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from UNH (New Hampshire) and Masters in Ocean Engineering & Business Administration from UH (Hawaii). He worked in various capacities for Hawaii Gas and PRI Solar (Pacific Resources Inc.) before joining IISS in 1993 where he continues to grow the Bid and Spec business. He has served as the Chair of ASHRAE TC6.7 when it was called Solar Energy Utilization and is active on the Handbook Sub-Committee.

David Parke of Dorvin Leis Co.
David Parke is the Vice President of Construction Operations at Dorvin D. Leis Co., Inc. David has over 30 years of industry experience. He has overseen some of Hawaii’s most prestigious projects including the new Disney Vacation Club and Resort, Trump Tower Waikiki, Westin’s Princeville Ocean Resort on Kauai and the Lodge at Koele on Lanai. David is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and the University of Florida. David has been an active member in our industry where he previously served as a member of the Board of Governors and Student Activities Chair for ASHRAE Hawaii. Currently, David serves on the Board of Directors for SMACNA Hawaii.
Kekoa Necolas of Alakai Mechanical
Kekoa Nicolas is the General Manager of Small Projects and Service at Alakai Mechanical. Upon graduating from Iolani Schools, Kekoa a????ended Missouri Valley College and completed his BA in History in 2005. Deciding he did not want to pursue a career in education, he landed a position as a Project Engineer at Energy Industries’ mechanical division. In 2007, he was given an opportunity to work at Alakai Mechanical where he started as a Project Engineer. Since then, Kekoa has gained the experience and knowledge to get to his current position at Alakai Mechanical. In his free time, Kekoa enjoys spending time with his two sons and wife of 10 years.
Pono Paahao of Heide & Cook
Pono Paahao is the Service Division Manager at Heide & Cook. plans and oversees the daily operation of the Service Division comprised of the HVAC, Refrigeration and Plumbing Service Departments as well as Air Reps. He is responsible for setting and achieving the financial plan, sales plan, overhead budgets, and bottom line goals of the division. His role within the company also includes providing support to internal departments and external customers when needed. Heide & Cook currently has branches on Oahu, Maui, Hilo and Kona providing services to various office, retail, medical, industrial, hospitality and educational institutions. He has been with Heide & Cook 1 ½ years and in the HVAC Service industry for 8 ½ years.
