Topic: The Do’s and Don’t’s of Flow Metering and Its Benefits to Residential and Commercial Applications

Precise and exact measurement of flow is essential to save energy and diagnose potential problems in the HVAC system. Increasing popularity of sub metering the energy and water use in residential and commercial buildings also drive many of the technological advances in this field. Therefore, ASHRAE Hawaii Chapter would like to cover various aspects of flow metering technology and its applications to residential and commercial buildings in the technical session of this monthly meeting. Best practices and design considerations for monitoring fluid flow for commercial and residential applications and how they apply to LEED and meeting ASHRAE Standards will also be covered.

Presenter: Dwight Matsuo

Dwight Matsuo is a Sales Engineer at Air Conditioning Solutions Supply Corp. Prior to working at ACS Supply, he gained experience at Heide & Cook as an intern in the Operations Department. Dwight received his B.S in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Main Program

Topic: Architect Round Table

Architectural design is one of the most important parts of a construction project. As design consultants, contractors, equipment suppliers, we all need to work with architects directly or indirectly. Effective communications and proper understanding of the expectations is the key for a successful project. Most often, design consultants are hired by the architects and the contractors do not get the opportunity to interact with the architects before the project is awarded. The equipment suppliers or the service engineers usually do not get the opportunity to interact with the architects, but their work is immensely affected by the architectural design. Therefore, the AHSRAE Hawaii chapter planned for a unique panel discussion for the January monthly meeting where a few renowned architects in our local industry will be a(ending as the panelists. Our members will get a unique opportunity to ask questions and explore ideas for how we can work be(er with architects, as well as be(er understand their expectations for a successful project. We understand every project is different and has unique challenges, but there are some general principles that are applicable across the board. We are hoping to address those general principals and enrich ourselves to be(er serve our community to preserve our unique culture and sustain our resources. We are fortunate to have few renowned architects agree to volunteer their time to take part in our panel discussion. Therefore, we hope you will find it useful to a(end the upcoming meeting!
