Technical Presentation
Topic: Innovative, Self-Contained HVAC Options for Hotels
This presentation highlights the growing demand to provide improved IAQ (meeting ASHRAE 62.1-2013) in the lodging and specialty market sector, along with two innovative new solutions from Friedrich Air Conditioning. The proper introduction of fresh conditioned outdoor air results in reduced humidity, air pathogens, and allergens while improving guest comfort. While several solutions are available to provide make-up air, many consist of complex and expensive total building systems. Friedrich has brought to market two innovative, self-contained (FreshAire PTAC and VRP) HVAC options, offering hoteliers a complete room-by-room solution addressing cooling, heating, humidity control and IAQ – all without the compromise of cost.
Presenter: Mario Martucci
Mario Martucci is a member of the Lodging and Specialty Markets Sales team at Friedrich Air Conditioning. As Rep Sales Manager, Mario works with our Plan and Spec Reps and assists them in providing the best comfort solutions for new construction and replacement properties. He has over 15 years of progressive sales and operation experience. Mario lives in San Antonio, Texas with his wife, Brenda, and their son, Giovanni.

Main Program
Topic: Fundamentals of Building Envelopes and Humidity Control in Hot & Humid Climates
Designing buildings in hot and humid areas requires the integration of techniques found in the ASHRAE Guide for Buildings in Hot and Humid Climates. Mr. Patenaude, P.E. will provide a presentation on the fundamentals of building envelopes in hot and humid climates, control of outdoor ventilation air with the use of dedicated outdoor air systems and building air pressurization. These three building systems are the main cause for concern for HVAC Engineers and comprise most building failures in hot and humid areas.
As an added bonus, Mr. Patenaude will also be presenting some info on new methods and equipment to control humidity in buildings that he has been researching via a US Army project.
